How to Apply for an Import Permit or Clearance from the Optical Media Board (OMB) [2023 update]

Image
If you're buying (importing) CDs, VCDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, solid state drives (SSD), USB flash drives, internal/external hard drives, memory cards (microSD, CompactFlash), tablets, smartphones, laptops, desktop computers, etc. you may need an import permit from the Optical Media Board, especially if your package will be shipped directly to you in the Philippines (either via DHL/FedEx/UPS, USPS, EMS or other similar postal service).  Customs will not release your package until you submit the document.

Thank You

How to Save on Viu Premium subscription ★^^★

Image
Viu Premium at Lazada Dec 12 sale Viu Premium at Shopee Dec 12 sale Update: Recently concluded November 11, 2019 price for both Shopee and Lazada for the 1 year subscription was 693 (Lazada even had a voucher for 100 off so it came down to 593). The 6 month, 3 month, and 1 month subscriptions were also on sale at different times. It becomes even cheaper if you can use Shopee coins. There's still a December sale if you missed out on 11-11. For reference, 12 month subscription is 990, 6 months 520, 3 months 270, so if you find vouchers cheaper than those prices buy them because they sell out fast. Mom's subscription (from the sale last year) was about to end last October 30 and I had to purchase a 3 month subscription at regular online price of 270 (because she says she can't do without Viu haha  :p ). Good thing I was able to snag the 12 month Viu voucher on sale for 593 at Lazada. Since you can't stack a 12 month subscription (max stackable is 12 months),...

The Tale of 2 Couriers: UPS vs Xend

Image
See my previous post on Xend here. After my bad experience with Xend's customer service, it was a surprise that another courier showed a more proactive customer service. I was expecting an item to be delivered by UPS last September 15 (even with the impending landfall of super typhoon Ompong) based on the tracking on the website.  I waited the whole day since the tracking showed it was out for delivery. Nightfall came but the delivery truck never showed. Ok. Maybe they cancelled it because of the weather. Fine. That night, the tracking showed that item was not delivered due to an incomplete address. Seriously?!!! So I signed up for a UPS account and put in my complete address again. On Monday morning, I filed a support ticket at the UPS site to ask why they claim it's an incomplete address when my shipping address is complete.  A few hours later, someone from UPS replied and asked for details. Later that afternoon, they delivered my package. I asked the ...

Fed Up with Xend's Poor Service

Image
Update: If you're having problems with your shipments at Xend, scroll down at the bottom of the post for some contact info. ------------------------------------------ I've been using Xend for a long time and have always been satisfied with their service, even with the  few missed pickups and super delayed tracking on their website.  The convenience of having items picked up at home at a cheaper rate compared to commercial couriers with cut-off hours (hello LBC!) made using their service tolerable. My recent shipment and dealing with their unhelpful and useless customer service was the last straw.  I shipped an electronic item worth 10k within my same city and used a paper waybill.  The rider who picked it up said he does pickups for Xend and another courier and did not give me an official receipt (and even claims they don't give official receipts nowadays). Waited 24 hours for tracking to appear but the tracking number nev...
